With the geopolitical tensions and Fed uncertain rate cuts, what is the current dividend yield of REITs during a crash? Which REIT gives you the higher current dividend yield? As most of us have limited funds, we could not buy all the REITs out there in the stock market. We want to buy the best REIT that gives us the higher current dividend yield during a market crash.

Do you know how to calculate the current dividend yield? The formula for calculating the current dividend yield is straightforward. It is calculated by dividing the annual dividends per share by the current market price per share. Here is the formula in mathematical terms:

Current Dividend Yield

The current dividend yield is a ratio that indicates how much a company pays out in dividends each year relative to its stock price. It is a useful metric for investors to assess the return on investment from dividends alone, without considering any potential capital gains or losses from stock price movements.

However, a higher dividend yield does not always mean that it is a better investment. We should always consider the overall financial health and growth prospects of the REIT when evaluating dividend yields.

One of the ways that I personally use to obtain the current dividend yield of all the REITs when the stock market crash is to run a stock screener to get the results.

How to Find REITs to Buy During Stock Market Crash?

There are many stock screening tools out there. As such, it is not difficult to obtain a shorter list of good REITs and their current dividend yield for further analyse and decision making. Stock Screening tools allow you to screen REITs based on specific factors like P/E ratio, dividend yield, and other financial metrics.

For me, I use Stocks Café Stock Screener to screen for a list of REITs that meet my predefined criteria so that I have a shorter list of REITs to analyse. Below are the criteria that I used to screen for dividend stocks. You can adjust them to fit your risk appetite.

  • Market Capitalization >= 1B
  • Current Yield (%) >= 5 and <= 10
  • Price / Book <= 3

Reminder: It is important for you to know that you should not buy the stock solely based on the current dividend yield. The screening results quickly gives you a glimpse of the current dividend yields of the REITs that meet the above screen criteria.
