How do you predict Singapore Savings Bonds interest rate? In my previous post, I have shared with you how to compare the interest rate between Singapore Savings Bonds. In this post, I shall show you how to calculate the interest rate for Singapore Savings Bonds in any given month.
If you didn’t know, the interest rate for Singapore Savings Bonds in any given month is linked to the daily average SGS yields in the previous month.
If you want to predict the Singapore Savings Bonds interest rates for November (SBDEC22), then you will need to get the daily yield data of the 10 year bond yield for October. The historical daily yield data can be found on Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) website.
Below are the instructions on how to predict the Singapore Savings Bonds interest rate.
Step 1: Navigate to Monetary Authority of Singapore – SGS Prices and Yields. Select the Start Year, Start Month, End Year, End Month and set Frequency to Daily.
For example if you want to compute the interest rate for November 2022, select October as the Start Month.
Step 2: Select 10-Year Bond Yield.
Step 3: Click Display.
Step 4: The daily rates will be displayed at the results. Sum up the daily rates and divide by the number of days. This will give you the next month’s Singapore Savings Bonds interest rates.
Sum of daily rates in October 2022: 69.51
Number of days in October 2022: 20
Average interest rate for November 2022 issue of Singapore Savings Bond (SBDEC22): 69.51 / 20 = 3.47%
A last tip and trick. So if you want to predict the interest rate for SBJAN23, you should do this on the last day or week of December 2022.
