It was a fruitful day for me as I attended the InvestX Congress 2017 organized by The Fifth Person. We have Rusmin Ang sharing about Portfolio Optimization, Alvin Chow from Dr Wealth sharing about ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), Tay Jun Hao about capital cycle and property counters and Victor Chng sharing about Thailand’s Medical Industry. This is not forgetting the famous and anonymous AK from ASSI (A Singaporean Stocks Investor) sharing about how to optimize your CPF (Central Provident Fund) by having the government paying for your Medishield premium for free yearly.
In fact, after the event, I quickly checked the balance of my Medisave Account and did a cash top up to achieve the maximum balance of the Medisave Account of S$52,000.
For the first time, I have learnt that there are thematic based ETF focusing on 3D printing, Internet of Things, Cybersecurity and even an ETF that focus on longevity.
There was an hour allocated for the audiences to ask questions to the panel (Rusmin, Victor, AK, Jun Hao). One person asked how to identify a ten bagger stocks with low risk profile. Well, I concluded from the panel that there is no ten bagger stocks with low risk profile. Both criteria does not come together.
A question was also raised to AK about buying properties. AK seem to comment that the property is expensive and it is difficult in current economy to find a private property below a million. He has a blog post on his blog that is about property investment. He highlighted that CPF is meant for retirement and we should not use it for investment unless during a bear market then we can consider breaking the glass as there are opportunities in the bear market to buy stocks that are higher yielding than the CPF ordinary and special account.
Jun Hao’s comment about Challenger also spark some thoughts in my mind as he mentioned Challenger was unable to penetrate overseas market at the moment such as Thailand or Malaysia. He compare it with bubble tea stores such as Gong Cha from Taiwan whereby they are able to penetrate into Singapore market and get Singaporeans to support the bubble tea brand.
Overall, it was a fantastic event and I do hope they organize this event yearly.
