Goodbye 2023 Hello 2024

Goodbye 2023, Hello 2024. Today is the last day of the year 2023 and in a few hours time, we will be welcoming 2024. Last year, I shared that I will focus on my Mindset, Health, Wealth and Skills. Below is my updates on the progress.

First, let me touch on my Health since this is almost everyone’s top priority. As the saying goes, Health is Wealth. I was extremely overweight in the year 2022. In 2023, I managed to shed 2.7kg from 75.30kg to 72.60kg. I am still overweight.

Despite my hectic work schedule, I make it a routine to run minimally 5 kilometres or more each week. This year, I ran 71 times, totalling 338.6km which was 34.7km more than what I ran in the year 2022.

The next area that I want to touch on is Skills & Mindset. At work, I was fortunate to attend a leadership course where I learnt a lot about leadership and people management. If I were to point out something rememberable from the course, it is the Trust Equation.

I recommend this book “REINVENT” written by Adeline Tiah. I read this in December 2022. One of the things I learnt was to build my network. As such, I have updated my Linkedin profile and connect with more people so that I can benefit from the breadth the network. The book has taught me to also embrace a “reinvent” mindset in order to thrive in the modern world where there are multiple disruptions to all aspects of our life. “Reinvent” is a mindset of high agility, curiosity and the willingness to take strategic risks.

Adeline’s book share that we need to keep abreast of emerging trends and develop in-demand skills to position ourselves for our next move. Personally, I felt that it is a bit tough for me to cater time to learn and keep up with emerging changes, but I did try. During pockets of my free time, I continue to do my self-learning through watching courses on Udemy.

Alright, let me share about Wealth. Through prudent saving and investing, I grew my wealth from 64.02% to 72.11%. In 2023, I collected a total dividends payout of $16,606.89 from stocks and Singapore Savings Bonds. This is probably “peanuts” as compared to the other financial bloggers that I knew. Nevertheless, I shall continue to invest hard and add more quality dividend paying companies to my stock portfolio.
