SMART Goals

August Checkpoint on SMART Goals for 2020

SMART Goals

Here is the August checkpoint on SMART goals for 2020 (S – Specific, M – Measurable, A – attainable, R – relevant, T – time-based) that I have set for myself.

In the second quarter of this year, I read about Chris Guillebeau. We should always track and check the status of our goals daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly so that we do not lose focus. Constant tracking of our goals ensure that we are making progression towards achieving our goals at the end of the year.

So here I am doing my third quarter checkpoint of the year.

Do at least 1 activity together per monthApril 2020

Before the sports facilities are closed before COVID-19 outbreak, we do go swimming together as a family once a week. We also visited the arcade at least once a month.

August 2020

Circuit breaker has ended and people are allowed to leave their homes. However, we are still avoiding parks and sport facilities as those places tend to be very crowded.

Instead, we are choosing to dine together as a family outside in a nice restaurant. This allows us to spend some time together rather than indulging our individual time on our own electronic devices.

Met
Contribute at least S$600 to each of my child OCBC Young Savers AccountApril 2020

I have contributed $150 to each of my child savings account from January to March.

August 2020

I have not been very discipline in contributing to my children’s savings account. I missed out the contribution for June and July. I will make the contribution this month.

Achieve 11.5K of Passive IncomeApril 2020

The stock market has crashed due to COVID-19 outbreak. With REITs slashing dividends payout, I doubt I am able to achieve this goal in 2020.

August 2020

Only $7,206.93 worth of dividends collected so far. Based on projection, I am unlikely to meet this goal.

Purchase 8K Worth of Singapore Savings BondsApril 2020

I have purchased S$1000 worth of Singapore Savings Bonds from January to March. With falling interest rates, I am still hesitating if I should continue my regular purchase of Singapore Savings Bonds.

August 2020

Due to the falling interest rates of Singapore Savings Bonds, I am placing my monies elsewhere such as Singlife and Dash-EasyEarn.

COVID-19 has certainly disrupted some of my resolutions for 2020. Even though the virus is a killer, the disruption from the pandemic did not turn out so bad after all.

During the circuit breaker period where all the shopping malls are closed, I could spend the extra time exercising and online learning.

During the stay at home period, I watched on Udemy the videos “30 Day Challenge to a More Productive and Much Happier You!” and “20 Free Life Hacks to Inspire You to Excel in Business and Life” by Chris Haroun. The video has changed my perception towards work and life. I encouraged you to watch them.

I also strongly recommend this book “Atomic Habits” written by James Clear. Instead of setting goals, we should make it into a habit. The reason is that once we reached the goal, it ends there. But if we make it into a habit, this becomes part of our live, and it follows you forever.

That is all my updates for August 2020 and I shall do my last checkpoint in December 2020.
