Traditionally, there are two type of investors. They are value growth investors and dividend investors.
Value growth investors are investors who buy value stocks and sell them when the value is unlocked (means stock price goes up).
Dividend investors are investors who buy stocks that pay dividends. Usually, Dividend investors hold on to the stocks as long as possible so long the company continue to pay dividends.
For myself, I am a dividend investor and that is why you see that my stock portfolio is built that way.
REITS
REITs are good dividend paying stocks that pay back dividends to investors either quarterly or half yearly.
In recent months, REITs have performed poorly because of the ongoing interest rate hike and high inflation. The energy crisis because of the ongoing political conflict made it worse as operating expenses goes up due to spike in energy prices. All these factors eat into the Distribution Per Unit (DPU) and thus cause investors to panic and sell down REITs.
If you remember, the current dividend yield is based on the formula.
Current Dividend Yield % = (Previous Full Year Dividend / Current Stock Price) x 100%
When stock prices goes down, the current dividend yield goes up. Do take note that I did not take into consideration future DPU cut due to the increase in interest rate.
