Book Review: It is Only Money and It Grows on Trees!

This is an eBook I received from Cara MacMillan in return for a book review. Apologies for the long time I took to finish reading the book as I was very occupied with work these few months.

The content of this book touches my inner soul deeply. The author uses students of different religion and in a role playing style, the book shares about how students of different religions have different perception of the value of money.

Using very simple examples, the author explains about value investing, dividends and bonds. These terms should be familiar to many financial bloggers as we invest for different purposes and reasons. I love the way the author writes about building a passive income. That is what my blog is mostly about and towards achieving a sweet retirement.

Previous generation believed getting a good job will guaranteed a lifetime of financial security, today it only means security for that time of economic growth.

The above quote is from the book. Yes, above is what my parents think. In current modern fast paced Singapore economy, do you think your job is as secured as before?

An excellent book I will recommend to young investors as it sets them on the right track about stock investing is not gambling.

I give it an above average rating of four stars.

Book Review: The Daily Edge

The Daily Edge This is an excellent book by David Horsager that teaches you simple strategies to increase efficiency and make an impact every day. In layman terms, this book teaches you about increasing productivity.

Besides reading financial related books, I also read books that teaches me about increasing my productivity and efficiency.

My reason is that I can learn to do things faster and better at work so that I can spend more time on my retirement portfolio. I have more passion analyzing stocks and read up on financial planning as compared to my current nine to five office job which does not give much flexibility. If I am productive at work, who knows I may earn another promotion which may or may not translate to a pay increment!

The book provides thirty five tips or high impact ideas to get you organized. For example, the first tip talks about creation of a 90 days quick plan. I find this very useful and can be applied to my stock portfolio planning. Where is my stock portfolio now? Where am I bringing my stock portfolio to in 90 days? How am I going to make it happen for my stock portfolio in 90 days?

However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results. – Winston Churchill

I highly recommend this book to all of you and I give it an excellent rating of 5 out of 5 stars!

Book Review: How 30 Good Ideas Became Great Businesses

How 30 Good Ideas Became Great BusinessesDo you aspire to be an entrepreneur? Do you have an idea but didn’t know if it will work out? Recently, I have borrowed a few books about entrepreneurship from the National Library. I hope to learn what are the challenges and how others embark on the path of entrepreneurship.

This book is about how 30 good ideas became great businesses. Two excellent points I learnt from the book:

#1 A significant minority of the founders started the business as a part time activity while they carried on with their day jobs t find their living expenses, focusing full time on their own business when it had shown enough potential to make them take that leap.

#2 Eighteen hours are pretty common.

The case studies in the book can be broken down into a few categories: Food and Drink, Retail, Restaurants and Leisure, Internet, Manufacturing, Media, Technology and Services. Have you heard or used Bebo? I have. It used to be in the same era as MySpace.
